“Experience the festive spirit in Peak’s winter update with holiday decor, icy landscapes, and snowball fun to tease your friends!”

Peak has just rolled out its festive winter update, bringing a fun new feature (snowballs) for those who love to annoy their friends in-game.

Landcrab, the creative team behind this co-op climbing adventure, launched the 1.50 patch right after the game’s first virtual concert featuring the popular rapper bbno$, which saw player numbers surge over the weekend.

According to the winter patch notes, “The airport lobby is looking a bit more festive, but that’s not all. Biomes will now be covered in snow where it makes sense! Of course, The Caldera won’t have snow because, well… lava… BUT the rest of the areas should be decked out for those PEAK holiday vibes. And if you’re in the southern hemisphere like some of us, just don’t sweat it.”

The highlight of this update is the introduction of “the ultimate weapon for enraging your friends”—snowballs. Just interact with the new snow mounds scattered throughout the levels, and you can start tossing these icy projectiles at anyone you choose.

Additionally, the update addresses several pesky bugs that could disrupt gameplay. For instance, “The airport and most of the mountain should no longer vanish when using DirectX12 with an integrated graphics card,” and the use of dynamite is now less likely to “blow up a player’s entire computer when it detonates.”

This winter update caps off an incredible year for the developers, who initially set out to create a simple four-week game jam project. Instead, Peak transformed into a viral sensation, selling millions of copies and racking up numerous game of the year nominations.

After a few months of hard work that led to 11 million copies sold on Steam, the Peak team embraces a lesson many companies overlook: “We’re not going to continually have a graph go up.”
