Xbox December Update Introduces New Store Tab for Mobile and Enhancements for Headsets
The December update for Xbox has arrived, bringing enhancements to your gaming experience beyond the console. This update introduces new store features in the Xbox mobile app, including a dedicated store tab for easier game browsing and the addition of your Wishlist, making it simpler to find and purchase games directly from your phone. The app also now allows you to search for add-ons seamlessly. This rollout is happening now for both iOS and Android users.
Additionally, a firmware update for the Xbox Wireless Headset is on the way, adding support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio. This Windows 11 feature enhances battery life and audio quality, offering lower latency and super wideband stereo audio for voice chat. Microsoft is also testing a new shared-audio feature on Windows 11, which will enable you to stream game audio to multiple Bluetooth devices, although this is currently available only to Windows Insiders on select PCs.
To access the main firmware update for the Xbox Wireless Headset, you can use the Xbox Accessories app on your console or any Windows 11 device. Keep in mind that Bluetooth LE Audio is only functional with compatible Windows 11 devices.
In terms of software updates, several Microsoft game collections are expanding. The Handheld Compatibility Program, aimed at helping players find games optimized for handheld devices like the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, has recently added two new titles: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Fortnite. The Xbox Cloud Gaming collection for streaming your own games has also welcomed new titles, including Brawlhalla and Resident Evil 3.
Moreover, the Retro Classics collection on Game Pass is set to grow with the addition of four new games: Codename: Iceman, Plaque Attack, Police Quest 2, and Space Shuttle. This collection currently features over 50 classic titles, with plans to double that number in the future. Lastly, a variety of games are receiving support for mouse and keyboard controls or touch controls. For the complete list, check out the latest updates.
