A Guide to Watching Demon Slayer: TV Series and Movies in Order

Figuring out how to watch Demon Slayer in the right order can be a bit of a challenge. With the recent release of the Infinity Castle movie and some uniquely named seasons, following Tanjiro’s journey isn’t as straightforward as it seems.

As the saga approaches its conclusion, now is the perfect time to catch up. We’ve crafted a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the Demon Slayer series in order, leading right up to the release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. This guide also addresses key questions like which version of Mugen Train to watch, the current episode count, any filler episodes you can skip, and the latest updates on the Infinity Trilogy.

Demon Slayer currently includes four seasons and an upcoming Infinity Castle trilogy, with the first movie already in theaters. While Netflix lists these as five seasons, you can follow along by focusing on the arc names.

Additionally, there are some movies that you might consider skipping, but it’s not as daunting as it sounds. Here’s the best way to watch Demon Slayer in order.

Start with the first season, titled the Unwavering Resolve arc, which aired in 2019 and consists of 26 episodes. This season introduces Tanjiro to the world of demon slayers and showcases his developing abilities.

Next, things get a bit more complex. A sequel to the first season was released as a film: Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. This story centers on a demon attack on a train, with Tanjiro and his friends receiving help from the Flame Hashira. The highly successful Mugen Train was also adapted into a television arc as part of season 2.

The Mugen Train arc consists of seven episodes, followed by 11 original episodes in the Entertainment District arc, where Tanjiro faces more Upper Rank demons. In total, season 2 has 18 episodes.

To keep it straightforward, we suggest watching season 1, then choosing either the Mugen Train movie or the Mugen Train recap arc (episodes 27-33) before diving into the Entertainment District.

After that, you can move on to the third season, the Swordsmith Village arc (episodes 45-55), which follows Tanjiro as he travels to the village to acquire a new weapon, only to encounter powerful demons.

The fourth season, titled Hashira Training, has recently concluded, wrapping up in June 2024. This season consists of eight episodes, bringing the total episode count to 63.

The Infinity Castle movie trilogy serves as the grand finale of the series. Unlike most of Demon Slayer’s other films, this trilogy is essential viewing. The first movie premiered on September 12, 2025. If you’re pressed for time, we have a selection of what to watch before Infinity Castle to help you catch up.

That’s the core of what you need to know. In our view, it’s better to watch the adapted-for-TV Mugen Train arc instead of the movie. You’ll not only get additional scenes but also bonus content (the 27th episode) that provides more backstory for one of Mugen Train’s key characters.

For Mugen Train, the choice is yours. It’s a direct sequel to the first season and, unlike many anime tie-in films, it’s canon. It introduces various characters and plot points that are revisited in the Entertainment District Arc.

However, watching both the movie and the Mugen Train arc series feels redundant. So, pick one. We recommend the latter for the extra material.

The To the Swordsmith Village and To the Hashira movies are entirely skippable; just jump to the full Swordsmith Village (season 3) and Hashira Training (season 4) arcs, as they only compile the opening episodes of those seasons.

The upcoming Infinity Castle trilogy is also skippable, serving as a canon conclusion to the series.

Anime often includes ‘filler’ episodes, which are designed to stretch the story until new manga chapters are available. Fortunately, that’s not really the case with Demon Slayer.

While some episodes may feel a bit slow, especially in the middle of the first and third seasons, everything is worth watching. We’d only suggest skipping the Mugen Train arc if you’ve recently seen the Mugen Train movie, as well as skipping the To the Swordsmith Village and To the Hashira Training movies since those events are covered in seasons 3 and 4.

That said, some episodes in the Hashira Training arc might feel skippable. It can be a bit slow, with many episodes padded out with anime-only scenes that don’t significantly advance the overall story. Still, we recommend watching it for the complete picture and important background on key characters in the final arc. At least it’s not as excessive as some of the filler found in other long-running series.

Currently, there are 63 episodes of Demon Slayer.

The fourth season, the Hashira Training arc, debuted in May 2024 and consists of eight episodes. All episodes are available for streaming, depending on your region.
