Todd Howard acknowledges the disappointment of no Fallout 5 launch alongside the Amazon series, but believes it will be a success when it arrives.

Fallout season two is now live on Prime Video, and Bethesda’s Todd Howard understands the mixed feelings some fans have. He acknowledges that many players wish the series was a new game instead.

In a recent interview, Howard shared, “Everybody will say to us, ‘It’s really disappointing you don’t have a new game to take advantage of this'” momentum with the show. However, he reassures fans, “the show is great. It is what it is. It’s doing great for us. We’re taking advantage of it. And when the next main Fallout game comes along, I think it’ll do great as well.”

Howard also mentioned that Bethesda is currently focused on both Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls 6, keeping any potential plans for Fallout 5 under wraps. His penchant for surprise releases is well-known; Bethesda Game Studios director Tom Mustaine noted that Howard has long wanted to drop surprises, emphasizing the excitement of saying, “Here’s the thing, get it today.”

There’s no need to rush, though. Howard is confident in the health of the Fallout franchise, stating, “We have a linear medium. You want to watch a show? We got a great show. You want to play an online game? We have a great online game. You want to play a single player? We have Fallout 4 there.”

He adds, “They’re all kind of operating with very, very large audiences, all four of those things right now.”

Additionally, Howard revealed that Bethesda is already thinking about “what elements can we bring into our games” from Fallout season 3.
