Alongside the main cast of Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, Macaulay Culkin is set to join as a recurring character in an upcoming episode. While we don’t have a name for his character yet, reports suggest he will portray a “crazy genius-type.” Leslie Uggams returns as overseer Betty, hinting that her Vault-Dweller has some surprises in store for the new season.
One of the most intriguing additions is Justin Theroux, who kicks off the season with a chilling portrayal of Mr. House.
Here’s the current cast list for Fallout Season 2:
The first full official trailer for Season 2 dropped on November 13, showcasing Lucy (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) preparing for a civil war in New Vegas. It also gives us a glimpse of Macaulay Culkin’s “crazy genius” and Kumail Nanjiani’s undisclosed character. We see Norm (Moises Arias) making a run for it, confirming he escaped Vault 41, where he was trapped at the end of Season 1.
A teaser released during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 on August 19 features Lucy questioning why her (evil) father (Kyle MacLachlan) would flee to Las Vegas, prompting the Ghoul to explain that this is where the nuclear disaster began. The clip flashes back to his days as the successful actor Cooper Howard, with quick scenes of glamorous, pre-war Vegas. Expect plenty of gunfire, explosions, a Deathclaw, and the sinister Mr. House. The most exciting aspect is the promise of exploring the Ghoul’s tragic backstory this season.
The Season 1 finale left many plot threads dangling for the main characters. The climactic episode culminated in a standoff at the Observatory, where Lucy finally confronts Moldaver and discovers her father’s true nature.
However, Hank has been less than honest. He was actually part of Vault-Tec’s management team 200 years ago. Norm learns that Vaults 32 and 33 housed a generation of super managers known as Bud’s Buds.
Additionally, Lucy’s mother didn’t perish as they had been led to believe. She discovered that civilization thrived on the surface and attempted to take her children to Shady Sands. Hank found her and burned it down, transforming Lucy’s mother into a ghoul-like creature.
Meanwhile, Maximus is now regarded as the Brotherhood’s “sword.” He arrives at the Observatory with plans to rescue Hank and assist Lucy. However, Hank escapes in the Brotherhood’s power armor after the Ghoul confronts him about his family’s fate.
In the final moments, Lucy faces a choice: stay with Maximus as he wages war for the Brotherhood or join the Ghoul to uncover who is truly “behind the wheel.”
She opts for the latter, shooting her mother and leaving Maximus behind. When Maximus awakens, he possesses the cold fusion device and is declared a knight.
As for the plot of Season 2, details remain largely under wraps.
It appears that the Ghoul and Lucy will embark on a quest to find more Vault-Tec members, including Barb (the Ghoul’s ex-wife, seen only in flashbacks).
This journey will likely lead them to New Vegas and the Mojave Wasteland, a significant setting moving forward. It’s unclear how closely the show will adhere to the lore of the best Fallout games, but expect a harsh and war-torn environment.
Unconfirmed set photos hint at Caesar’s Legion (a major faction in New Vegas), suggesting that if the plot aligns with the games, we might see the NCR forces (New California Republic) and some conflict over control of the Hoover Dam. Exciting times ahead.
The Brotherhood is now in a strong position, thanks to the cold fusion device, rumored to have “limitless power.” It will be fascinating to see whether Maximus uses it for good or ill.
While the creators have been tight-lipped about what to expect next in Fallout Season 2, some hints have emerged from the cast and crew.
Co-showrunner Graham Wagner teased the introduction of a significant creature in Season 2, following a glimpse of its skull in the Season 1 finale.
“We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece,” he shared. “We want to save something for Season 2 to do it properly, not just add to the massive world-building we had to do already in Season 1. So, Season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.”
In addition to Deathclaws, executive producer Jonathan Nolan promised more of everything in a separate interview. “There are more monsters, more environments, more factions that we are currently designing and building right now to begin production quite soon. So we’re really excited.”
Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy, also hinted at significant changes for her character after the Season 2 finale. “I want the audience at the end of the show to wonder if their hero is still a good person,” she said. “I don’t know who she’s gonna be in Season 2, but this is what happens when you break the unbreakable. I don’t know who she’s about to become.”
In an interview, Purnell described the dynamic between the vault dweller and the Ghoul as a “buddy road trip” at times, while also highlighting their conflicts. “And then other times, they’re so much at arms. They’re trying to influence each other and see who’s going to rub off on whom.”
It sounds like their influence on each other could lead to some intriguing developments, as Purnell adds, “Is the Ghoul going to become good? Is Lucy going to become bad? Or are they going to be somewhere in the middle?”
Meanwhile, Sarita Choudhury, who plays Moldaver, expressed her curiosity about her character’s survival over 200 years. “Part of me knows a lot, and purposely in the season, you see, and you get what you get. But I would ask the same question,” she said. “I know a bit and I can’t share it, but I also don’t know a lot. But it’s also what I loved, because you’re like, ‘Wait a minute, I want to know from when the bomb fell [what life was like] day by day, and then for 200 years. Because she didn’t have access to what the Vault dwellers had. I need it to be revealed. You know what I mean?”
And yes, there will be a Fallout Season 3! This was confirmed even before Season 2 premiered, meaning there’s plenty more time with Lucy and the gang.
