Todd Howard confirms Fallout 5 will share its universe with the Amazon Prime series.

Bethesda’s executive producer Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 will officially tie into the Prime Video TV adaptation.

When discussing a mainline Bethesda Game Studios title, it’s essential to remember that we might be waiting quite a while before we can actually play it. Fallout 5 was announced as the studio’s next project following The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2022, and as of now, there’s no release date or timeframe for either game. This likely means we won’t see a new mainline Fallout until the 2030s, at the earliest.

Now, with that somewhat gloomy note out of the way, Howard has provided a significant update regarding the next installment in the series, confirming that it will exist in the same universe as the TV show. When asked by an outlet if the show would influence Fallout 5, Howard responded, “In short, yes. Fallout 5 will be set in a world where the stories and events of the show happened or are happening. We are taking that into account.”

This is intriguing. While it’s tough to draw concrete conclusions about how this will shape Fallout 5’s narrative, the show has been well-received, so it’s exciting to know it’s officially part of the game’s lore. Howard also recognized that there are fans of the show who may not have played the games yet.

“There’s still so many people that won’t play a game,” he noted. “I think that’s getting better, but there are still those who feel intimidated.”

He emphasized that these viewers can still enjoy the Fallout universe, which is crucial because they are now fans of the world in their own right.

The premiere of Fallout’s second season is currently available for streaming on Prime. Based on our review of the season, it’s definitely worth checking out.
