Behind-the-Scenes Look at “Welcome to Derry” Showcases Bill Skarsgård’s Chilling Performance as Pennywise, VFX or Not
A new behind-the-scenes clip from *It: Welcome to Derry* episode 8 has dropped, showcasing how Bill Skarsgård embodies the terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown without relying on CGI.
In this short clip, we get a glimpse of both the pre-VFX and post-VFX scenes from the season finale, where Lilly, Will, Marge, and Ronnie are desperately trying to return the cosmic dagger to the ground to put Pennywise back to sleep for another 27 years. In the first clip, Skarsgård screams directly into the camera with just his Pennywise makeup, and it’s somehow even scarier than the edited version that adds a dark sky, swirling snow, and those haunting yellow eyes.
And yes, that voice is all him. Unlike some characters who have their voices altered in post-production, Skarsgård naturally delivers that chilling tone. Aside from the special effects that enhance his head and hair, those unsettling facial expressions are purely Bill—no edits necessary.
While *It: Welcome to Derry* season 1 has wrapped up, there are plans for two more seasons of this hit prequel series, promising at least 16 additional episodes of Pennywise’s eerie antics as he continues to prey on children and their deepest fears.
All episodes of *It: Welcome to Derry* are currently available for streaming.
