The Oscars are set to stream on YouTube in 2029.
The Oscars are making a move to YouTube, set to kick off in 2029. YouTube has announced that the prestigious awards will be broadcast exclusively for free worldwide and on YouTube TV in the U.S.
Viewers can expect a full experience, including red carpet coverage, behind-the-scenes content, and access to the Governors Ball. This agreement is set to last until 2033, as noted in a press release from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
For now, ABC will continue to air the Oscars leading up to the show’s 100th edition in 2028. Earlier this year, there were whispers about YouTube eyeing the rights to the Oscars.
“This partnership will tap into YouTube’s extensive reach and bring fresh engagement opportunities to the Oscars and other Academy programming while celebrating our legacy,” stated Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor.
In a similar vein, Netflix has also entered the awards streaming arena, having started to stream the Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2024 as part of a multi-year partnership.
