The Game Awards Hits Record Viewership in 2025, Surpassing Super Bowl Ratings
The Game Awards had an impressive showing in 2025, with host and organizer Geoff Keighley revealing that the event garnered 171 million global livestreams. This marks an 11% increase from the 154 million views in 2024, making the 2025 ceremony the most-watched in its history. Keighley also noted a 12% rise in discussions about the awards on X, alongside 23,000 co-streams on Twitch and YouTube, reflecting a 50% year-over-year growth. It’s worth mentioning that these streaming figures do not include views from Prime Video. In comparison, this year’s Super Bowl attracted 127.7 million viewers, though the two events aren’t directly comparable for various reasons.
The 2025 Game Awards featured several major announcements, including Larian’s upcoming title, Divinity, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, and a new shooter named Highguard. Numerous awards were presented, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 taking home Game of the Year. This title, developed by Sandfall, emerged as the biggest winner of the night, clinching nine awards and setting new records for The Game Awards. Keighley is set to return with The Game Awards in December 2026, but first, he will host the Summer Game Fest in June 2026.
