Silent Hill F Producer Teases Potential International Sequels
Earlier this year, Silent Hill f broke new ground by moving away from the iconic American town that has defined the series, instead opting for a setting in Japan from decades past. Developer Motoi Okamoto hinted that this fresh approach could be explored further in future installments. “We believe we could perhaps take similar approaches with other cultures across the globe,” Okamoto shared through a translator. He mentioned the potential to delve into the rich shamanistic traditions of Central and South America, as well as exploring unique belief systems in regions like Russia, Italy, or South Korea. “All those areas have their own unique types of belief systems. I believe that will be a gateway for us to expand our concepts further,” he added.
Okamoto seemed particularly intrigued by the possibilities in Central and South America, noting the impact of military governments and coups on the culture. He pointed out the “bravado and ‘machismo'” that arises from these political landscapes, alongside the folkloric elements rooted in shamanism and local beliefs. However, he acknowledged the challenge of partnering with a development studio in that region, as options are limited. Still, he didn’t dismiss the idea entirely.
In the meantime, Okamoto credited memes and fan art for keeping Silent Hill f in the spotlight long after its release. The game recently received an update that introduced a new casual difficulty and a skip feature for new game plus. Additionally, it seems the Silent Hill 2 remake has been quietly confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, although a release date for that port has yet to be announced.
