Konami explores expanding the Silent Hill series to new regions, including Russia, Italy, and South Korea, after shifting its focus from Maine to Japan.
Many fans of Silent Hill are skeptical about the latest installment, Silent Hill f, not being a ‘true’ entry in the series since it doesn’t take place in the iconic town of Silent Hill, Maine, which has been the heart of the franchise for years. To those fans, it might be time to embrace the possibility that future Silent Hill games could venture beyond the familiar fog.
While nothing is confirmed yet, series producer Motoi Okamoto recently shared some intriguing thoughts about potentially relocating future titles to different parts of the world, diving into new cultures and local folklore.
“We believe we could perhaps take similar approaches [to Silent Hill f] with other cultures across the globe,” Okamoto mentioned. “For instance, in Central or South America, we could explore local shamanistic beliefs and see how they could be integrated. We could also broaden our scope to regions like Russia, Italy, or South Korea, each with their own unique belief systems. This could open up new avenues for our concepts.”
As a dedicated fan of the series, I share the excitement for a new Silent Hill game set in that eerie, fog-laden town that feels like a terrifying second home to many. However, Silent Hill f has made a strong impression, and I wouldn’t mind if the next game continues this trend of exploring fresh settings. One challenge, as Okamoto pointed out, is the scarcity of established game developers in some of these regions who could be entrusted with the Silent Hill legacy.
“Central and South America do not have very many prominent development studios for video games capable of handling an IP like Silent Hill,” he noted. “While there are plenty of fascinating movies, books, and stories, figuring out how to translate that into games is something we still need to investigate.”
As of now, there has been no announcement regarding a new Silent Hill game.
