Instagram Aims to Curb Hashtag Spam

If you’re fed up with scrolling through Instagram posts cluttered with an overwhelming number of hashtags, there’s good news. Instagram is rolling out a new rule to limit the number of hashtags to just five per post.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared this update on his “Instagram advice” channel, emphasizing that while it might be tempting to load up on hashtags, a select few targeted tags actually yield better results than a long list of generic ones. “Quality over quantity is key,” he stated. Although hashtags can aid in searchability, they don’t necessarily boost your reach. Instead, Mosseri encourages creators to concentrate on understanding what type of content truly resonates with their audience.

Additionally, Instagram is taking steps to curb spammy behavior from Threads users by restricting them to a single tag per post. Mosseri explained that this approach aims to shift the focus of tags towards building communities rather than just chasing engagement metrics.
