Get the 8BitDo Rare 40th Anniversary Xbox Wireless Controller at a Great Discount!
Xbox and PC gamers can snag a fantastic deal on 8BitDo’s inaugural wireless controller designed for the Xbox Series X|S. The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-Mode Rare 40th Anniversary Edition is currently priced at $72, down from its original $90. This officially licensed controller not only includes a matching charging dock but also features a metal D-pad, Hall Effect sticks, and customizable back buttons. Launched in August to commemorate Rare Limited’s 40th anniversary, it boasts a striking blue-and-gold design adorned with symbols and artwork that pay homage to the legendary studio. While Rare is widely recognized today for Sea of Thieves, its impressive portfolio includes classics like Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, and Perfect Dark. The controller was previously discounted only during Black Friday, and that deal sold out quickly.
The 8BitDo Ultimate 3-Mode Rare 40th Anniversary Edition serves as a solid alternative to the Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller, which is currently available for $135, down from $200. This versatile controller works wirelessly with Xbox consoles, PCs, Apple devices, Android, and the Steam Deck. Additionally, there are various other 8BitDo accessories licensed by Xbox on sale, including the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard, Retro R8 Mouse, All-Button Wireless Arcade Controller, and the Ultimate Bluetooth Mobile Controller.
The original Ultimate 3-Mode Controller debuted last spring in classic white and black, with a transparent green variant added in May to match the Retro 87 Keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse. The “3-Mode” designation refers to its connectivity options: 2.4GHz Wireless for PC, Bluetooth for mobile, and wired for Xbox. The Rare 40th Anniversary Edition retains all these modes, plus it features 2.4GHz Wireless compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Notably, it’s the only Ultimate 3-Mode Controller that includes a charging dock, and the silicone stick caps enhance grip and control.
This new controller is likely to attract die-hard Rare fans, even those who may not own a wireless Xbox controller. However, it’s important to note that the 3-Mode Controller lacks the latest upgrades found in 8BitDo’s flagship Ultimate 2 or Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, which is currently at an all-time low price. The Ultimate 2 offers four remappable buttons, improved TMR sticks, RGB light rings, and adjustable trigger locks, among other enhancements. While the Ultimate 3-Mode is a solid controller, it doesn’t quite match the capabilities of 8BitDo’s top-tier offerings. PC gamers might also want to consider the Ultimate 2, now priced at $47.69, down from $60. For those with a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is available for $56, reduced from $70. The Ultimate 3-Mode’s design closely resembles that of the Xbox Wireless Controller.
