Lords of the Fallen 2 developer believes Epic Games Store exclusivity won’t deter PC gamers from purchasing the title.

Platform and store exclusives are becoming increasingly uncommon in the gaming landscape. With rising costs in a volatile industry, most studios are looking to maximize their sales opportunities. The upcoming Lords of the Fallen 2 is challenging this trend by launching exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PC, and one of the key developers believes this will have minimal impact on its audience.

Marek Tyminski, the founder and CEO of CI Games, took to Twitter to clarify the reasoning behind the game’s Epic exclusivity. He stated, “Let’s be clear: the majority of PC players who want a specific game will buy it on Epic if it’s exclusive there. This is backed by real sales data across all major markets, including North America and Europe (excluding Asia, first year after launch).”

When questioned about the source of this information, he cited GSD, which stands for Games Sales Data, a primary resource for tracking consumer behavior in gaming. However, he did not provide specific figures or statistics to back up his assertion.

While several titles have been linked to the Epic Games Store over the years, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 in 2023 stands out as one of the few of similar scale. Although specific PC sales figures haven’t been disclosed, it took until the end of 2024 for that game to turn a profit across all platforms.

One could argue that being on Epic may have hindered sales potential, as Steam typically offers a broader audience. However, without concrete numbers, this remains speculative, relying instead on anecdotal claims from users who refuse to use Epic and similar platforms.

It will be interesting to see how this decision affects Lords of the Fallen 2. Tyminski previously mentioned that Epic made a “significant investment” in the project, likely alleviating some pressure on the development team. The sequel is set to release in 2026, just three years after the original Soulslike, with limited details available at this time.

“Can you go on to level design?”: The boss of Lords of the Fallen 2 confirms “yes,” indicating that the game will include attractive characters as part of efforts to “continue improving,” although fans are primarily focused on gameplay.
