Total War: Medieval 3 Director Confident It Will Launch Before Elder Scrolls 6, But Hopes to Be Surprised by Bethesda: “I Need It”
After nearly two decades, Total War: Medieval 3 is officially in the works at Creative Assembly. However, don’t get your hopes up just yet, as there’s still a significant wait ahead before we can dive into this eagerly anticipated historical strategy title. One of the studio leaders is optimistic that it will launch before The Elder Scrolls 6, even if he admits he’d prefer to be playing that game first.
In a recent post on the official forums, Roger Collum, vice president of the Total War series, discussed the announcement of Medieval 3 and set realistic expectations regarding its release timeline. “We know it’s going to be a few years (I’m pretty sure we’ll still beat Elder Scrolls VI to market – please Bethesda accept the challenge for all our sake – I need it!),” he humorously stated. “There’s no amount of sugarcoating to escape that fact, but we really want to make it something worth waiting for – and with your support, it will be.”
As for The Elder Scrolls 6, its release date remains a mystery. Todd Howard recently noted that the “majority” of Bethesda’s developers are focused on it, but he didn’t provide any hints about when we might get more information on the highly anticipated return to Tamriel.
Despite Collum’s hopes, the odds seem favorable for Total War: Medieval 3 to take the lead in this race. This sequel to Medieval 2: Total War will once again explore the Middle Ages, and it has taken several attempts to reach this point.
“We’ve tried to do it many times – but we felt we couldn’t do it justice until now,” Collum explained. “Bringing a game to life requires all the right elements to align perfectly; the right team, the right technology, and the right vision to push the boundaries of our historical experience and deliver something that resonates with players worldwide.”
The competition is heating up: The Elder Scrolls 6 vs Total War: Medieval 3 vs Half-Life 3. With GTA 6 set to release next November, there’s definitely room for any of these titles to come out next, and I’m placing my bets on Creative Assembly.
As Skyrim celebrates its 14th anniversary, Elder Scrolls 6 fans are left craving updates, only to hear Todd Howard mention that it’s “still a long way off,” despite being announced seven years ago: “Bethesda has had us hanging by a thread.”
