Former Rockstar Developer Predicts No Further Delays for GTA 6: “Hype Will Fade”

If you were among those let down by the recent delay of GTA 6, which has shifted from May 2026 to November of the same year, a former employee has some encouraging news. An ex-artist from GTA 5 and GTA Online believes it’s highly unlikely we’ll see any further delays for this highly anticipated title, regardless of its current development status.

Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar, shared his insights on the situation. He noted that if Rockstar were to delay GTA 6 again, it could significantly dampen the excitement surrounding the game. “Right now, nobody is searching for GTA 6. Everyone knows there’s no news, there’s nothing to talk about. There’s a point where you delay something so much that you start to make people angry,” he explained.

The frustration was palpable after the last shift in the release window. A member of the Polish parliament even labeled it “a huge scandal,” and many fans were left disappointed, especially since no new trailer was released to quench their thirst for updates on the GTA 5 successor.

As it stands, November 2026 appears to be the target date, and York believes this timing is ideal for Rockstar. “If you want to sell a big amount of video games then that’s the perfect time for GTA 6 to come out with it being a month before Christmas,” he pointed out. “Usually companies only delay these things once or twice when they need to, so I think it will come out around that time.”

His reasoning is sound, and launching the game just in time for the holiday season would certainly be a strategic move for Rockstar. However, the company is currently facing other challenges, including a wave of layoffs that has sparked accusations of union-busting, which could attract scrutiny from the British government.

One thing is for sure: we will eventually be diving into Grand Theft Auto 6. The big question remains when that will be. For now, the answer is set for next November, and let’s hope it stays that way.
