Fortnite Players Are Loving the New Kim Kardashian Skin
Chapter 7 of Fortnite has rolled out a Kim Kardashian skin as part of its Icon series, and while she might not be my top pick, it seems she’s captured the attention of many players. Recent stats from an independent source reveal that the “Iconic Kim Kardashian” skin, which debuted in the shop on December 13, has quickly become the most popular skin of the season, with about 5 percent of players sporting it.
To put this in perspective, the second most popular skin in Chapter 7 is Backlash, a coveted in-game cosmetic that some believe offers a slight advantage by blending into certain map areas. Following that are Cat Holloway and Chani, Zendaya’s character from the Dune series. Among the top 15 skins, only four are not original Fortnite creations: Catwoman, rapper Playboi Carti, Lara Croft, and The Bride from Kill Bill. Interestingly, Kim Kardashian ranks 70th in all-time cosmetic usage, despite being available for just over a week.
The Kim Kardashian bundle, available until December 28, is priced at 3,000 V-Bucks (around $19). It includes the Iconic Kim Kardashian skin, which features a black, latex-style catsuit reminiscent of her SKIMS line, along with a standard Kim Kardashian skin (complete with a removable fur coat, crop top, and pants), two backpacks, two pickaxes, two emotes, and a glider.
While some of her items may seem a bit bland, this skin stands out as one of the better celebrity representations in Fortnite, likely due to the attention to detail in recreating Kardashian’s likeness and the variety it offers.
A recent post on the official Fortnite account highlighted some impressive stats, showing that there were 37.5 million games played with Kim Kardashian, alongside 6.7 million games featuring full squads of Sabrina Carpenters.
Kardashian’s influence in pop culture is undeniable—her show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, consistently attracts millions of viewers, and she boasts over 350 million followers on Instagram, ranking among the top ten most-followed accounts on the platform. However, her popularity as a Fortnite skin likely stems from more than just her savvy business acumen and cultural presence.
The Kim Kardashian Icon skin is highly customizable, surpassing most skins in the game. Many items in her bundle are quite basic, like the crop top outfit and the makeup brush pickaxe, but the Iconic catsuit skin offers a wealth of variations, providing great value. Players can choose from different styles, including tank tops, mock necks, and strapless options, along with seven color choices that range from metallic to latex-like finishes. Accessories like gloves and sunglasses can be toggled, and her hair can be styled in various ways.
This level of customization, combined with Fortnite’s vibrant community, particularly among female players and the LGBTQ+ crowd, contributes to the skin’s popularity. Players can team up as a squad of diverse Kims, creating rich meme potential. Clips of Kim K players engaging with characters like Chun-Li or dancing with Peely have flooded social media, showcasing the fun and creativity the skin brings. Sabrina Carpenter’s skin gained traction for similar reasons, offering multiple style options and TikTok-friendly emotes.
And let’s not forget the appeal of the skin itself. Players have previously enjoyed the Chun-Li skin for its eye-catching features, and now they have Kim Kardashian’s iconic look to admire while gaming.
If you’re interested in grabbing the Kim Kardashian skin in Fortnite, make sure to do so before December 28.
