Jack Black assures fans of Super Mario Galaxy that they’ll be “very pleased” with the upcoming film adaptation.
With its roots in one of the most beloved Mario games, expectations are sky-high for the animated sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Jack Black, the voice behind Mario’s pint-sized rival, hints that fans of the franchise are in for a treat.
In a recent chat in London, Black shared insights about the upcoming sequel to the $1.36 billion-grossing Super Mario Bros. Movie, which draws inspiration from the classic 2007 title, Super Mario Galaxy. “I’m sworn to secrecy, but there are tons of Easter eggs, and anyone who loves that universe will be thrilled with how it’s been adapted for the big screen.”
As a passionate gamer himself, Black has previously run a gaming-focused YouTube channel and lent his voice to various game characters, most notably in 2009’s Brütal Legend. The new film isn’t just pulling from Super Mario Galaxy; it also features nods to Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Wonder, as seen in the first trailer.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie boasts a star-studded cast, with Chris Pratt voicing Mario and Black as the fire-breathing Bowser. Other notable names include Brie Larson as the cosmic protector Princess Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser’s mischievous son, Bowser Jr. However, despite hints in the post-credits scene of the previous film, Yoshi has yet to make an official appearance, with only leaked materials hinting at his involvement.
Mark your calendars: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on April 3, 2026.
