Head of Ghost of Yotei Development Studio Departing, Future Plans Uncertain

Brian Fleming, co-founder of Sucker Punch Productions, is stepping away from the studio after an impressive 28-year journey that began in 1997. What’s next for him? Fleming admits he’s uncertain, stating in a LinkedIn post, “I really don’t know what’s next.” He will remain with Sucker Punch until April 2026 to assist with the transition, after which he plans to travel and explore various opportunities. Fleming is weighing several paths for his future, including staying in the gaming industry, branching into broader technology, entering the entertainment sector, or even delving into advocacy and politics. “After 28 absolutely life-changing years at the helm of Sucker Punch, I’ve decided it’s time to shake up the snow-globe,” he shared.

Taking the reins as co-studio heads starting January 1 are Jason Connell, co-creative director of Ghost of Tsushima and Yotei, and Adrian Bentley, the technical director. Nate Fox will continue his role as co-creative director. Fleming expressed confidence in the studio’s future, stating he’s leaving it “in the capable hands of the strongest leadership team we’ve ever had.” He believes they are well-prepared for new challenges and will ensure the studio continues to thrive.

Sucker Punch made its mark with the N64 title Rocket: Robot on Wheels in 1999, but it was 2002’s Sly Cooper that launched the studio into the spotlight, leading to a successful franchise with multiple sequels. The studio followed up with the hit Infamous in 2009 and was acquired by Sony in 2011. Looking ahead, Sucker Punch is set to release Ghost of Yotei: Legends, a free multiplayer DLC, in 2026.
