In the latest trailer for 007: First Light, developer IO Interactive is making a strong case for its unique take on the spy genre, even as it draws comparisons to Uncharted. The visuals and gameplay elements certainly evoke that familiar feel, blending action with Hitman-style stealth, which is an intriguing combination.
Unveiled during the recent PlayStation State of Play, the trailer showcases our protagonist, James Bond, navigating treacherous cliffs, leaping from exploding vehicles, and engaging in intense combat, all while maintaining his signature charm. The developers have indicated they’re embracing IO’s strengths, and with Bond at the helm, stealth is definitely on the agenda. So, think Uncharted’s thrilling action paired with Hitman’s tactical stealth—sounds like a winning formula.
As for the story, you step into the shoes of a young secret agent on his inaugural mission, aiming to prove himself and earn his 00 status. This origin tale pits Bond against formidable foes, including the main antagonist, Bawma the pirate, portrayed by Lenny Kravitz.
The trailer reveals Bond getting into precarious situations in Iceland, narrowly escaping death while catching the attention of a former 00 agent and mentor, who decides to guide him as they confront the rogue operative 009. Expect to traverse some of the world’s most dangerous locales, where Bond’s charm alone won’t be enough to ensure survival.
Mark your calendars for May 27, when 007: First Light launches on PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Switch 2.
This game promises to offer a unique experience for Bond fans, slowing down the action to allow players to savor those quieter moments.
