007: First Light Pushed Back Two Months for Extra Refinement, Marking IO’s Most Ambitious Project Yet
IO Interactive has pushed back the release of 007: First Light by two months, now set for May 27, 2026.
In a recent update on Bluesky, the developer behind the Hitman series shared that they need additional time to refine 007: First Light before it hits the shelves.
“007: First Light is our most ambitious project to date,” the studio stated, emphasizing their commitment to delivering an unforgettable James Bond experience filled with thrilling action, international escapades, spycraft, gadgets, car chases, and more. As an independent developer and publisher, this decision allows us to ensure the game meets the high standards players expect from day one.”
IO also mentioned that “the game is progressing well and is playable from beginning to end,” but it simply requires a bit more time to reach its full potential.
While waiting an extra eight weeks for something you’re eager to play isn’t ideal, early previews of 007: First Light suggest that the extended wait will be worthwhile. One preview noted, “From what I’ve seen so far, IO doesn’t completely nail that down every single time, but where it does stumble it’s an issue with the format rather than the delivery itself. If that minor quibble is the only one the studio faces, then my faith in 007: First Light seems well-placed – this could prove to be the perfect Bond game.”
The CEO of 007 First Light expressed optimism about the delay of GTA 6, stating that “spring looks really good,” and believes Rockstar’s eventual release could benefit “the industry as a whole.”
