2K Unveils New Studio Aimed at Developing Its Next Major Sports Franchise

2K is setting the stage for a new AAA game development studio called Small Axe Studios, aiming to create the next big sports franchise. While the announcement doesn’t specify which sport the upcoming title will focus on, an image shared in the post hints at a soccer theme, featuring a mockup badge that suggests a potential rivalry with EA Sports FC. The Small Axe website also showcases senior team members who have previously worked on EA’s FIFA series, including studio head Aaron McHardy, who played a key role in that franchise.

Small Axe emerged from the 2K Sports Lab initiative, which was introduced in 2023. This new title will expand 2K’s lineup, which already includes popular games in basketball (NBA 2K), wrestling (WWE 2K), and golf (PGA Tour 2K).
