49ers Coach Claims Tesla’s Autopilot Engaged During Crash
Four weeks ago, San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan found himself in an accident near downtown Palo Alto. Initially, he stated that the incident was his fault, but during a recent press conference, he provided more context, revealing that he had his Tesla’s Autopilot activated at the time. Despite this, Shanahan took full responsibility, emphasizing that it was his error regardless of the Autopilot’s involvement.
“I’ve had Autopilot for nine years, so I’m pretty comfortable with it. Who knows what happened when I turned around? Whether it malfunctioned or I accidentally disabled it, I can’t say for sure. But ultimately, it’s always your fault, whether you’re on Autopilot or not. You can’t take your eyes off the road. It’s a partnership in driving; you don’t just hand it over to a computer.”
Over the years, Tesla’s Autopilot has been associated with numerous crashes and fatalities, leading to significant legal settlements amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.
