81-Year-Old Grandma Streams Minecraft to Fund Grandson’s Cancer Treatment, Celebrates His Recovery

In October, an Arizona grandmother kicked off a series of YouTube videos where she plays Minecraft to help fund her grandson’s cancer treatment. Fast forward to today, and 17-year-old Jack Self is now “cancer free” and “feeling great.”

At 81, Sue Jacquot never thought of herself as a gamer, but she decided to dive into the world of gaming this past summer to bond with her grandkids, Jack and Austin. Just a few months later, she launched her YouTube channel, GrammaCrackers, aiming to alleviate the financial strain of Jack’s aggressive cancer treatment.

Her debut video, a heartwarming 15-minute introduction titled ‘The BEST START EVER’, quickly gained traction, amassing over half a million views. Each video includes a link to Jack’s GoFundMe, which has raised more than $42,000 to date. The GrammaCrackers channel has nearly 200,000 subscribers, with all proceeds directed toward Jack’s treatment.

Recently, a local news outlet visited Jacquot’s family in Queen Creek, Arizona, bringing fantastic news. “I am cancer free,” Jack announced. “I’m feeling great.”

Jack was diagnosed with a severe form of cancer known as sarcoma in 2024 and has undergone over 200 chemotherapy sessions. For Jacquot, stepping into Minecraft and YouTube felt like a natural choice, even as someone who wasn’t previously into gaming.

“I was never really curious about it, but when you have grandkids who want to interact with you, you do it,” she shared, noting the overwhelming support she’s received, from prayers to encouraging messages since starting her channel.

Jack’s brother Austin expressed amazement at their grandmother’s ability to adapt, saying, “We were all mind blown that she was able to figure it out and then it just kind of went from there.” Jack added, “It was just very sweet to watch everybody being so kind to me and my grandma.”

Minecraft has also revamped its baby mobs to be even cuter, and you really need to take a moment to appreciate how adorable they are.
