A Beloved Block Pusher Is Finally Arriving on My Preferred Platform!
A couple of years back, I discovered a charming sokoban game called Isles of Sea and Sky. My first encounter was at a Day of the Devs showcase in San Francisco, and I was hooked from the moment it launched later that year. I played through most of it on my Steam Deck, which was nearly the perfect platform for it, but I often found myself wishing it was available on the lighter, more user-friendly Switch.
Well, it’s almost here!
Mark your calendars for October 8! Just a week away!
I can’t express how much I adore Isles of Sea and Sky. It’s a clever block-pushing puzzle game set across a series of islands that you unlock quickly, but you need to solve puzzles to uncover all their secrets. The way it weaves together puzzles and islands, both in geography and theme, is fantastic, and it tells a story without a single word through those challenges. The game features delightful music and charming pixel art, with vibrant colors that really make the world stand out. Plus, it received a “Mysterious Update” last year that introduced a bunch of new puzzles and block types!
While I completed the entire game on Steam Deck and tackled every puzzle (I loved it that much!), I didn’t dive into the Mysterious Update beyond the initial few puzzles. I’ve been eager to return and finish it ever since. Typically, I don’t replay games where I already know all the solutions, but I’m seriously tempted to revisit Isles of Sea and Sky on the Switch just to experience the DLC on my favorite portable console. Sokobans like this shine in handheld mode, and Isles of Sea and Sky has a nostalgic Game Boy Color vibe that feels perfect on a smaller screen.
Play it wherever you like, but don’t miss out on Isles of Sea and Sky! I’m genuinely thrilled this is finally happening!
