A beloved board game is set to launch a major expansion at the start of 2026.

A fresh expansion for Wingspan is set to launch in 2026, bringing some exciting changes to the game.

The Wingspan Americas Expansion marks the fourth addition to this beloved board game and will be available for purchase starting January 21. Shipping is expected in February, with a broader retail release following in March 2026. This expansion features over 100 new bird cards, including a variety of hummingbird ‘mini’ cards. For seasoned Wingspan players—who often see it listed among the top board games—these new cards will significantly impact gameplay. Hummingbirds will now move between player boards and a new central ‘garden’ board.

If you haven’t experienced the original Wingspan yet, it’s currently available at a discount, with prices around $55 instead of the usual $65.

I’ve been exploring the rulebook, and this expansion is more than just a gimmick; it will change your strategy, especially if you’re looking for a fresh take on the game. Hummingbirds can zip from the shared garden board to your personal board (as long as there’s room) or return during your turn. This mechanic offers additional benefits, and attracting each of the five hummingbird ‘types’ will help you progress on a new score tracker. The more types you attract, the more points you can accumulate.

As highlighted in previous reviews, the various paths to victory are one of the standout features of Wingspan, and this expansion adds yet another layer to that complexity. While it may be overwhelming for newcomers, it promises to be a fantastic addition for veteran players.

Pricing details haven’t been announced yet, but it’s likely to fall in line with previous expansions, estimated between $30 and $40.
