A Fan Recreates the Strangest Scene from the GTA 6 Trailer in Real Life
There’s a moment in last month’s Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look trailer that has sparked quite a bit of chatter among fans. It features Jason executing a running backflip off a pier and into the stunning blue ocean. Some viewers thought it looked impossible, but one athlete has shown that this flip can indeed be done in real life—though it’s probably not something most of us could manage.
On August 27, Rockstar treated fans to nearly 30 minutes of gameplay footage for GTA 6. In the days that followed, players meticulously analyzed every frame for details, and there was a wealth of content packed into that trailer. However, Jason’s backflip has become somewhat infamous online, igniting debates among the community. Many reactions pointed out that it looked “off” or “bad.” When I shared the trailer with friends, this backflip was one of the few moments that drew negative comments. It does come across as a bit stiff and… odd.
Yet, one athlete and content creator took it upon themselves to demonstrate that this peculiar backflip wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility. After some trial and error, they successfully executed the move.
Content creator Aspen Treese is clearly a skilled athlete, capable of flipping around like a character straight out of a video game. Even he found it challenging to replicate this awkward backflip while running and jumping off both feet, all while trying to maintain a slower rotation. This has me convinced that I could never pull it off, and I suspect many readers might feel the same way.
Could it be that Jason in GTA 6 possesses more athletic prowess than we give him credit for? Maybe he has a secret background in circus arts? More likely, though, this backflip animation simply didn’t mesh as smoothly with the other animations in the trailer, making it stand out. The big question now is: Will Rockstar refine this flip before the game launches on November 19? We’ll find out in less than 70 days.
