A Guide to Watching Jujutsu Kaisen: Series and Movie Order

At first glance, figuring out how to watch Jujutsu Kaisen in order might seem straightforward. With two seasons already out and a third, the Culling Game, set to drop in 2026, it looks manageable. But don’t forget about the prequel movie, the tricky timeline, and various compilations, including the recently released Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution.

While it’s not as complex as sorting through the watch order for One Piece or the mind-bending timeline of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the expanding franchise can get a bit overwhelming. To help you navigate this sorcerer saga, we’ve crafted a guide on how to watch Jujutsu Kaisen in both release date and chronological order, ensuring you won’t miss a beat.

If you’re looking for more watch orders, you can also check out how to watch Demon Slayer in order (including the blockbuster film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle) and how to watch Bleach in order. Plus, get ready for the new anime coming in the winter 2026 season, like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2.

For a straightforward experience, the Jujutsu Kaisen watch order by release date is the way to go. Here’s how it breaks down:

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen aired from October 2021 to March 2022, featuring 24 episodes.

Next up was the prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which hit theaters in March 2022, raking in nearly $200 million worldwide.

The second season concluded in December 2023, starting with the five-episode Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc in July 2023, and then diving into the Shibuya Incident arc in August.

A third season is set to premiere in January 2026, but it was teased in the compilation film Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, which released in US theaters in December 2025. However, you can skip that if you want.

So, here’s our recommended watch order for Jujutsu Kaisen:

Now, if you’re looking at the chronological order, it gets a bit trickier. The first five episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 are the earliest in the timeline, exploring the backstory of Gojo and Geto, along with some intense events they faced together. This arc was also adapted into a compilation movie released in July 2025. You can choose either version, as they share the same content.

The prequel story continues with Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which takes place after the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arc of season 2 but before the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Then, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 6 picks up right after the events of season 1.

Feeling lost? Here’s how to watch Jujutsu Kaisen in chronological order:

You definitely should check it out. Not only does it provide crucial context for key characters, but it also sets the stage for much of what unfolds in season 2.

Some plot twists might lose their punch if you watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0 before season 2, but that’s our preferred viewing order. After all, there’s a reason it was adapted from the manga and released after the first season.

A compilation movie that combines the first five episodes of season 2 came out in summer 2025, but you can skip it if you’ve already watched the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc. The same goes for Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, which recaps the Shibuya Incident and includes the first two episodes of season 3.

We don’t recommend skipping any episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s an outstanding anime—arguably one of the best in the last five years—and nearly every episode adds something new to the characters and the fascinating world they inhabit.

Unlike long-running series like One Piece and Bleach, which often had filler episodes due to waiting for more source material, Jujutsu Kaisen is expected to remain free of filler for the foreseeable future.

Currently, there are 47 episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen and one movie. The upcoming third season, which will adapt the Culling Game arc, is rumored to add another 26 episodes.
