A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms actor admits he didn’t realize the importance of his big reveal in episode 3: “I’ve never watched Game of Thrones.”
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has reached the midpoint of its inaugural season, and this week’s episode delivered a significant twist with the revelation of a character’s true identity. Consider this your spoiler alert for episode 3 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms!
If you’re caught up, you already know that Dunk’s squire, Egg, is more than just a stable boy; his real name is Aegon, and he’s a Targaryen prince.
“It feels cool. Feels like I’m a dragon,” said 11-year-old Dexter Sol Ansell, who portrays Egg, in a recent interview. “I just wanna jump out my window and go ‘wee!’ and breathe fire. Yeah, it feels exciting to be a Targaryen. I mean, I don’t know much about Game of Thrones because I’ve never watched it, but I think Targaryen’s the best house, in my opinion.”
He continued, “When I was reading the scripts and looking into it, I found out that I was gonna be a Targaryen, and my first thought was, ‘Who’s a Targaryen? What’s a Targaryen? What’s this random name?’ Then my parents told me everything. It was really cool to find out that I was a royal.”
The series, based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, follows the adventures of hedge knight Dunk and his new squire Egg as they navigate the quest for fame and fortune at a tournament. Currently, there are three novellas in the series, but showrunner Ira Parker has indicated that Martin has provided enough unpublished content to potentially span 12 seasons, chronicling Dunk and Egg’s journey throughout their lives, culminating in Egg’s ascension as King Aegon V.
