A new Adventure Time series is set to premiere on Disney Plus next month.

When Adventure Time first hit Cartoon Network in 2010, it kicked off eight years of zany, imaginative escapades with Finn the Human and Jake the Dog as they explored the vibrant land of Ooo. Now, with successful spinoffs like Fionna and Cake making waves, the beloved duo is back in Adventure Time: Side Quests.

Disney Plus and Hulu have revealed that Adventure Time: Side Quests will debut in the U.S. on June 29. This new series is crafted by Cartoon Network Studios, with Nate Cash (known for SpongeBob SquarePants) at the helm as producer. Darrick Bachman (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) takes on the role of story editor, while Victor Courtright and Niki Yang direct. Nick Cross serves as art director, and Matthew Janszen composes the music.

Side Quests will act as a companion piece to the original Adventure Time, featuring fresh adventures for Finn (now voiced by Sasha Knight, taking over from Jeremy Shada) and Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio). The series aims to recapture the essence of the earlier seasons. Unlike the original, which developed intricate, episode-spanning narratives, Side Quests promises a collection of more standalone stories. This new installment seeks to welcome a new generation of fans into the whimsical world of Ooo while still resonating with longtime followers eager to reconnect with the franchise they cherished.

“Creating Side Quests felt like revisiting the original Adventure Time, reminiscent of hanging out with friends from art school while making professional cartoons,” shared showrunner and executive producer Nate Cash. “It was a big mix of emotions, and it truly was! You’re going to love these NEW adventures with Finn & Jake!”

But it’s not just Finn and Jake making their return. Fan favorites like Princess Bubblegum (Hynden Walch), Marceline (Olivia Olson), BMO (Niki Yang), and Ice King (Tom Kenny) will also be back in action.

Although the original Adventure Time wrapped up in September 2018, the franchise has remained lively. Since its conclusion, fans have enjoyed spinoffs like Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake and a variety of Adventure Time comics. While following Fionna and Cake’s journeys or the romance between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline has been a treat, Adventure Time enthusiasts are sure to welcome the opportunity to dive back into the adventures of Finn, Jake, and the enchanting world of Ooo in Side Quests.
