A New Comic Series Revives Star Wars’ Most Overlooked Era

The High Republic initiative, the most ambitious Star Wars multimedia project to date, is back with more intergalactic excitement. The first issue of High Republic Adventures — Pathfinders is now available at your local comic book shop.

High Republic Adventures — Pathfinders is a six-issue limited series crafted by George Mann, with illustrations from Vincenzo Riccardi, Partha Partim, Jagdim Kumar, and Michael Atiyeh, and cover art by Jake Bartok. Set 20 years after Phase II of the High Republic, the story follows a fresh team of Republic Pathfinders tasked with investigating the mysterious death of a Jedi Master, only to discover they may have taken on more than they can handle.

Taking place 200 years before The Phantom Menace, the High Republic era unfolds a grand narrative about the Jedi at their peak as the galaxy’s protectors. Yet, the Republic Jedi face significant challenges, battling various foes, including the Nihil, a group of space pirates intent on sowing chaos. Unlike the sequel trilogy, which depicted a brief period following the fall of the Galactic Empire before the rise of The First Order, the High Republic offers a rich tapestry of stories spanning 200 years.

Star Wars also explored the High Republic era beyond comics and novels with director Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte, a mystery-thriller featuring Amandla Stenberg, set during the twilight of the High Republic. Unfortunately, despite its thrilling cliffhanger, the series was canceled.

While the cancellation of The Acolyte was a letdown, Mann and his team’s latest adventure proves there’s still plenty to uncover in the High Republic era.
