A Rare Pokémon Makes Its Comeback in Pokémon Go After Six Years
Scopely is putting the spotlight on the genetically engineered Pokémon Mewtwo to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Go. They recreated a scene from the iconic launch trailer with an exclusive Mewtwo raid in Times Square, gifting all players a Mewtwo boasting perfect stats and a unique anniversary background. To top off the festivities, the rarest form of Mewtwo is making a comeback for the first time in six years.
The 2019 film Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution, a CGI remake of the original 1998 movie, featured a version of Mewtwo clad in armor designed to contain its overwhelming psychic abilities. Armored Mewtwo was available in five-star raids in Pokémon Go back in 2019 as part of the movie promotion and returned for Pokémon Day in February 2020. The introduction of the Remote Raid feature in April 2020 made raiding significantly easier, allowing players to team up digitally rather than in person. This means many players will have their first opportunity to catch this stylish, albeit less powerful, version of Mewtwo.
Armored Mewtwo will be featured in raid battles from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time on September 5 and 6 as part of the Go Fest Mega Finale. Players can also take on Mega Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y, and catch versions of Mewtwo with adventure effects—abilities that can be utilized outside of battles. Dynamic Punch+ boosts your damage in Mega Raids and lets you break two shields in Super Mega Raids instead of just one. Using Future Sight+ will cause Pokémon players to glow if they have three-star or higher stats.
While shiny Armored Mewtwo won’t be available this time around, hopefully, you won’t have to wait another six years to expand your Mewtwo collection further.
Log in before September 6 to claim your reward.
