A Star Trek game is set to vanish for good.
Star Trek gamers are facing a tough year, with the news that Star Trek Legends will be delisted later this month. This marks the second time in 2023 that a Star Trek title has been pulled from digital storefronts.
Emerald City Games shared the update on Steam, revealing that Star Trek Legends will be removed from PC platforms on August 20. The game had already been taken down from console stores earlier this year. To add to the disappointment, the developers announced that the game will only remain playable until September 3, when it will go offline completely. Recent player reviews on Steam have indicated that Star Trek Legends has been unplayable for several days, suggesting it may already be offline.
Originally launched as an Apple Arcade title, Star Trek Legends is a strategy RPG where players gather a team of captains and characters from various Star Trek eras to save the universe.
This is the second Star Trek game to vanish this year, following the earlier delisting of Star Trek: Resurgence during the summer. Fortunately, players who purchased Resurgence before its removal can still enjoy the game, unlike Legends.
These delistings raise questions about the longevity of the latest Star Trek titles. Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, a survival-strategy sim that received positive feedback upon its February release, is now under scrutiny. Legends lasted two years on Steam, while Resurgence was available for about three years, so it might be worth keeping an eye on Voyager – Across the Unknown to see if it remains available by February 2028 and February 2029.
Looking ahead, the next Star Trek game on the horizon is Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a horror title from the developers behind the Silent Hill 2 remake.
