Ace Attorney Trilogy Hits Major Milestone, But No New Installment on the Horizon
To mark the upcoming 25th anniversary of the franchise on October 12, Capcom has revealed that the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy has hit a significant sales milestone. However, there’s still no information on whether a new Ace Attorney title is in the works.
On Bluesky, Capcom announced that the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which was released for modern consoles in 2019, has surpassed 5 million copies sold. According to data from Capcom’s investor relations, the entire franchise has sold over 15 million copies. To commemorate this achievement and celebrate the series’ quarter-century milestone, new artwork by Kazuya Nuri and Takuro Fuse was also shared.
While the sales figures for the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy may seem modest compared to heavyweights like Monster Hunter: World or the Resident Evil 2 remake, it’s still an impressive accomplishment for a collection of courtroom visual novels that cater to a niche audience. The Ace Attorney series boasts a dedicated and passionate fanbase, and Capcom has been attentive to them with re-releases of nearly every game in the lineup.
Unfortunately, there’s no news yet on the next installment in the Ace Attorney series. In the West, the latest “new” release was 2021’s The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, which was technically a remake of two titles that debuted in Japan in the mid-2010s and are set in a different era than most of the series. The last mainline game featuring Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, or Miles Edgeworth was 2016’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice on the 3DS.
It’s been over ten years since Spirit of Justice launched in North America. Fans are hopeful that Capcom’s celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary will lead to more than just artwork and a sales milestone announcement. Everyone is eager to find out what the future holds for Ace Attorney.
