Adult Swim’s New Chicken Anime Could Be the Next Big Thing After Attack on Titan

Rooster Fighter, the anime adaptation of Shu Sakuratani’s manga, is set to launch on Adult Swim this March.

This action-packed series centers around Keiji, a rooster with a twist. While he may look like your typical bird, he’s actually humanity’s fierce defender, bravely battling the monstrous threats that have begun to plague his town. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like if Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan were a chicken, this show is right up your alley.

“Rooster Fighter is the kind of series that instantly tackles the question ‘Yes, but what if a rooster did it?’ and never looks back,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen. “It’s absurd, genuinely heartfelt, and filled with talon-fueled action.”

Think of it as Attack on Titan, but with roosters—sounds pretty epic, right?

Adult Swim recently dropped a teaser trailer for the 12-episode anime, showcasing Keiji in action. He leaps onto a massive, demonic adversary, skillfully pecks it right in the eye, and lands gracefully before shouting, “Finishing move!” He then transforms into his ultimate form, unleashing his signature battle cry: “Kokekokkō!”—the Japanese equivalent of “Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

It’s thrilling to see another anime making its debut exclusively on Adult Swim rather than on major streaming services like Crunchyroll or Netflix. The network’s recent exclusive anime offerings have had mixed receptions. Uzumaki, based on Junji Ito’s horror classic, faced criticism for its animation and development issues. Meanwhile, Lazarus, helmed by anime legend Shinichiro Watanabe, garnered positive feedback, though many fans felt it didn’t quite reach the heights of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy.

Rooster Fighter will premiere in English dub on Adult Swim at 12 AM on March 14, with new episodes airing every Saturday.
