Adult Swim’s top new series of 2025 has been greenlit for two additional seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim’s latest viral sensation, Smiling Friends, kicked off its third season, delivering another round of its signature trippy, dark humor. However, the network also introduced a fresh animated series that took a completely different approach. Haha, You Clowns offered a sweet and soothing experience reminiscent of Joe Pera Talks to You, but in animated form. In a time filled with bleakness and cynicism, this show struck a chord, becoming an unexpected hit.

On December 18, Adult Swim announced that Haha, You Clowns would be getting two additional seasons, giving creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of the Campbell family: three polite teenage brothers whose main trait is their love for their widowed dad, all voiced by Cappa himself.

“I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave Haha, You Clowns a chance and spread the word,” Cappa expressed in an official statement. “I’m incredibly thrilled I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer.”

In the same announcement, Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen praised the series as “radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny,” acknowledging the fans who discovered Haha, You Clowns and shared its unique charm.

“All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons,” Ouweleen stated. “In the words of the show: ‘You are strong! You are loved!'”

Back in October, I described Haha, You Clowns as “a wholesome alternative to Rick and Morty,” noting that “there’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable brood live their daily lives.”

Cappa shared his vision for the show, aiming to break comedy free from its cynical tendencies, which he attributes to the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and similar influences.

“There’s this level of irony that we can’t get ourselves out of,” Cappa remarked. “It’s like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we’re watching stuff. I feel like we’ve been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

With Haha, You Clowns renewed for not just one, but two more seasons, Cappa may just help usher in that evolution. Or at the very least, provide us with more time basking in the warmth of the Campbell family.

Haha, You Clowns’ season 1 finale airs December 21. The entire series is available for streaming.
