After five years in development, the live-action Gundam movie is set to premiere on Netflix, featuring stars from The Housemaid and Street Fighter in leading roles.

The long-awaited Gundam movie might finally be on the horizon, as reports indicate that Netflix has secured the distribution rights for this groundbreaking live-action adaptation.

Sources suggest that the streaming giant is moving forward with the project, bringing on board Jim Mickle, known for his work on Sweet Tooth, to write and direct. The cast will feature Sydney Sweeney from The Housemaid and Noah Centineo, who is set to appear in the upcoming Street Fighter adaptation.

Mickle will produce alongside his Nightshade partner Linda Moran, while Centineo will also take on a producer role with Enzo Marc under his Arkhum label. It looks like this new vision is coming together quite well.

The Gundam franchise, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, is celebrated as one of the greatest anime series ever, starting with the original Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979. Since then, it has expanded to include over 18 spin-off series, 7 feature films, and a plethora of manga and graphic novels.

Pioneering the mecha genre, Gundam presents a military narrative set in a futuristic Universal Century, focusing on a young, inexperienced crew who join forces with a talented 15-year-old pilot and his massive robot to battle the oppressive Principality of Zeon.

Originally announced in 2021, Legendary’s Gundam was set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who previously worked with the studio on Kong: Skull Island. However, it has been confirmed that both the production company and Vogt-Roberts are no longer attached to the project.

As we await further updates on Gundam, there are plenty of fantastic anime movies to check out for some inspiration.
