After four years, a top PlayStation title has finally launched on Switch 2.

Stray, the 2022 sci-fi adventure game where you step into the paws of a cat, continues to showcase its resilience. This award-winning title from BlueTwelve Studios is now making its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2. The enhanced version features a range of improvements, including upgraded visuals, 4K resolution, better frame rates, and Joy-Con mouse support. Fingers crossed for some fun with motion controls, like knocking drinks off tables! The Switch 2 version will be available for $29.99 on the eShop, and if you already own the Switch version, you can upgrade for free. The game is already accessible on nearly every other platform: PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

When it launched about four years ago, Stray broke out of the indie scene, shattering concurrent player records on Steam with over 62,000 active users. It turns out, people really love cats. The game received high praise from both critics and players, and it even played a role in streaming fundraisers for real-world animal shelters.

While Stray is undeniably adorable, it hides a more somber narrative than one might anticipate. Players navigate a post-apocalyptic world devoid of humans, piecing together the mystery of what happened. Set against a backdrop of neon lights and classic cyberpunk aesthetics, you guide this tabby through Kowloon Walled City-inspired structures, solve puzzles, and (sort of) interact with the robotic denizens of this new reality. Along the way, the nameless cat must evade deadly machines and mutant creatures known as Zurks. Plus, you can press the circle button to meow, which is a nice touch.

Stray’s success was significant enough for the studio to greenlight a film adaptation at Annapurna Animation, the same team behind the acclaimed 2023 coming-of-age film. While BlueTwelve Studios hasn’t revealed their next project, given the seven years they dedicated to their first game, we might be in for a wait for a sequel or something new.
