Ahsoka Season 2 Faces Significant Setback

When the first season of Ahsoka wrapped up, it was clear that the finale left many threads unresolved, lacking the punch to stand alone. Fast forward three years, and Star Wars enthusiasts are still eagerly awaiting the continuation of that narrative, even though initial predictions suggested Ahsoka season 2 might drop in 2026.

That timeline has shifted. Rosario Dawson, who brings the titular character to life, revealed during a presentation that the second season is now slated for an early 2027 release.

Dave Filoni, the showrunner and future co-President of Lucasfilm, has been diligently working on Ahsoka season 2, with filming scheduled from April to October 2025. The announcement for the second season came on January 9, alongside news about the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The conclusion of season one left Ahsoka (Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) stranded on the planet Peridea, the ancient and barren home of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Season two will pick up right where the first left off, with Shin (Ivanna Sakhno) on the hunt for Ahsoka and Sabine. Baylan Skoll, now portrayed by Rory McCann (taking over from the late Ray Stevenson), will also play a crucial role, though specifics are still under wraps.

The storyline will also delve into the newly escaped Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) as he launches an assault on an unsuspecting New Republic. Fortunately, Thrawn isn’t the only one returning from Peridea; Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) is back, reuniting with his fellow Specter, Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

Perhaps the most thrilling news is that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker. While his exact involvement in the second season remains unclear, given that the finale featured him as a Force ghost watching over Ahsoka and Sabine, it’s likely he’ll take on a mentorship role once again for his wayward apprentice.

While the exact release date remains vague beyond early 2027, Star Wars fans have had a treat in 2026 with the stunningly animated first season of Star Wars – Maul: Shadow Lord and the upcoming film featuring The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, the latter half of the year looks a bit bare without Ahsoka season 2. It seems fans may need to revisit Rebels to bide their time and gear up for what the next season of Ahsoka has in store.
