AI Assistants Introduced in Photoshop and Premiere

Adobe is diving headfirst into the integration of AI assistants across its Creative Cloud suite, with new chatbots now available in its flagship editing and design applications. Starting today, a public beta introduces tailored AI Assistants for Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign, and Frame.io, designed to streamline your workflow and automate specific tasks within each app.

These AI assistants, powered by Adobe’s “conversational creative agent,” function independently as specialists within their respective applications. For instance, the Premiere AI assistant is optimized for tasks like swiftly reorganizing your video timeline, while Photoshop’s version is adept at utilizing popular photo editing tools on your behalf.

Each AI assistant features a chatbot-like interface that allows you to communicate your project needs using natural language prompts, similar to the assistants already available in Adobe Express, Acrobat, and Firefly. The capabilities of these assistants are quite extensive, reflecting the complexity of the design tools they support. Here’s a brief overview of what each can do:

In Premiere, the AI assistant can categorize assets into bins and rename batches of clips based on the content of the footage. It can also detect questions or keywords in recorded speech, using them to add markers to your project timeline or establish a starting point for your video. Adobe emphasizes that “the tedious set-up work is taken care of for you,” allowing the assistant to assist with any tasks in the Project panel or Timeline.

For Photoshop, you can “describe the desired outcome,” enabling a prompt-based editing approach similar to what’s offered by Adobe’s Firefly assistant. This functionality allows you to organize layers, change backgrounds, resize assets for online use, and more. This rollout follows the earlier introduction of an AI assistant for the web and mobile versions of Photoshop.

In Illustrator, the AI assistant can handle “multi-step production jobs,” such as identifying color mode errors or missing fonts, reorganizing layers, and generating multiple design file versions from a spreadsheet or document. For InDesign, the assistant can perform print-readiness checks and apply copy and styling updates across all page layouts when you upload a new PDF or open an existing template. In Frame.io, the assistant can provide revision feedback, organize shoot assets, generate B-roll footage, and assist with “creative direction” on your projects.

“Adobe has always been at the center of how the best creative work comes to life, and this is a major expansion of that promise,” stated Adobe’s creativity head David Wadhwani. “Every creative now has an agent capable of helping them execute across every app and platform where they work so they can set the vision, apply their taste, and make the calls that only they can.”
