Alex Cast Confirmed for Minecraft 2 Movie

The sequel to the Minecraft movie has found its Alex, with Kirsten Dunst stepping into the role alongside Steve. This marks a significant moment for Dunst, who has long dreamed of landing a role in a lucrative project like Minecraft 2.

Last summer, Dunst expressed her hopes in an interview, suggesting that a sequel could be a great opportunity, especially since her kids loved the first film. With a solid track record in blockbusters, including the Spider-Man trilogy and the original Jumanji, she’s set to shine in a sequel that’s likely to be a box office hit. The first Minecraft movie raked in over $960 million, making the follow-up a highly anticipated venture.

Director Jared Hess is back at the helm, co-writing the screenplay with Chris Galletta, who contributed to the original film. The title remains under wraps, but fans are speculating whether it will be called Minecraft 2, A Minecraft Movie 2, or something else entirely. Jack Black is expected to reprise his role as Steve, alongside Jason Momoa, who returns as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. Momoa has previously described his time on set as an “unbelievable movie experience.” Co-stars Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Emma Myers are also likely to return.

The first film hinted at Alex’s inclusion in the Minecraft Cinematic Universe with a post-credits scene, although her face was not revealed. Alex was introduced to the Minecraft game over a decade ago as the default female avatar, providing a more diverse representation for players. Mojang noted that while Steve is iconic, Alex offers a different look with her thinner arms, red hair, and ponytail, resembling Minecraft designer Jens Bergensten from certain angles.

Both Steve and Alex, along with other characters like Enderman and Zombie, joined the roster of playable fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2020, showcasing the enduring popularity of Minecraft. Alex stands proudly alongside Steve in official Minecraft artwork as a co-star.

The sequel to the Minecraft movie is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027, while the original is currently available for streaming.
