Amazon refreshes the 2023 Fire HD 10 tablet, now featuring 4GB of RAM.

The Fire HD 8, which launched in 2024, marked the latest entry in Amazon’s budget tablet series, but the company has also made some quiet updates to the Fire HD 10 that was released the previous year. In 2023, the Fire HD 10 was available in various storage options, all featuring 3GB of RAM. However, the 32GB model now comes with an upgrade to 4GB of RAM, accompanied by a slight price increase from $139.99 to $154.99.

The 64GB version of the Fire HD 10 still retains the 3GB of RAM, and the specifications for both models remain unchanged. They feature a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, powered by a 2GHz eight-core processor, offering up to 13 hours of battery life, and supporting expandable storage via a microSD card. The updated model is only available with lock screen ads, but you can opt to remove them later for a one-time fee. If you’re interested in this tablet but want to avoid the $15 price hike, the original 3GB/32GB version is still available for $139.99, though it may run out of stock soon.

While Amazon hasn’t provided specific reasons for the update, the ongoing RAM shortage linked to the surge in data center construction for AI is impacting the availability of memory chips. Additionally, Valve’s Steam Machine has switched to a single 16GB RAM stick instead of the initially planned dual 8GB sticks. As noted, Amazon might also be facing challenges in sourcing the original hardware used in these tablets.
