Amazon’s Color Screen Kindles Introduce System-Wide Dark Mode
Most modern Kindle devices equipped with a black and white E Ink display now feature an alternate inverted dark mode, showcasing white text on a black background throughout the entire user interface. Recently, it was announced that this functionality is coming to the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which utilize color E Ink screens and previously only allowed for page inversion in ebooks. A software update introducing this system-wide dark mode for Colorsoft devices will be rolling out to users globally in the coming weeks and will be available for download from Amazon’s website.
The dark mode will be applicable across all sections of the Colorsoft and Scribe Colorsoft’s UI, with the option to customize which areas utilize it. For example, you can enable dark mode for the homescreen, your ebook library, and reading, while keeping the Scribe’s written notebooks in the standard light mode.
In addition to the dark mode, the Scribe Colorsoft’s notebooks will also feature Smart Shapes, allowing you to easily add predefined shapes to your handwritten notes and sketches from the toolbar, including lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles. If you prefer a more freehand approach, a new hold-to-snap feature will convert your drawings into precise lines, circles, triangles, or rectangles, ensuring your notes remain tidy.
