Amazon’s drone deliveries are making unexpected splashes in pools and ponds.

Amazon’s rapid drone delivery service is set to expand to 500 cities across the US, but this could lead to more unexpected package drops into swimming pools. Recently, a video surfaced showing an Amazon delivery drone hovering over a customer’s pool in Texas before it opened its hatch and dropped the package right into the water.

This isn’t the first instance of Amazon’s drones delivering wet packages. A video from last July featured a Prime Air drone dropping a package next to a pool in Arizona, only for the force of the drone’s propellers to send it splashing into the water. The customer mentioned that he allowed Amazon to choose the delivery spot for him. Another incident in May involved a drone dropping a package near a pond, which then bounced off the ground and fell into the water.

Last year, Amazon paused drone deliveries in the West Valley Phoenix Metro Area after two of its MK30 drones collided with a crane. There have also been reports of drones cutting internet cables and crashing into buildings.

Amazon claims that its drones will verify the area is clear of people, pets, or vehicles before making a delivery. Perhaps they should also consider checking for water hazards.
