Analyst Projects Nearly $800 Million Investment for The Witcher 4, Anticipates New DLC for The Witcher 3 This Year
The upcoming Witcher 4 is set to be a monumental project for CD Projekt Red, with analysts estimating its cost could soar to nearly one billion dollars. This figure is projected to be about ten times the budget of its predecessor.
According to insights from an analyst, the total budget for Witcher 4 is expected to reach approximately $778.9 million, marking a significant increase compared to any previous title released by the studio. While the development expenses are already substantial, they are not the only factor affecting the overall financial picture.
The costs associated with marketing and promotion are anticipated to match those of production. The analyst estimates that developing the next installment in the Witcher series will require around $389 million, driven by rising expenses, a larger development team, and heightened ambitions for the game.
Support for the launch, including public events, major reveals, and social media campaigns, is likely to incur similar costs. Given the need for prime advertising spots at major industry events like The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, along with the expenses of creating trailers and conducting interviews, these figures seem plausible.
This is the same studio that brought Keanu Reeves on board for Cyberpunk 2077, both as a character and to generate pre-release excitement. Engaging Hollywood talent doesn’t come cheap, and it’s reasonable to assume the studio aims to continue this trend. For context, The Witcher 3 had a total budget of around $81 million, while Cyberpunk 2077’s budget reached approximately $400 million, encompassing the entire release.
Witcher 4 is shaping up to be a colossal endeavor, especially with the franchise’s expanded reach thanks to the Netflix series and the growing prominence of CD Projekt itself. There may also be more content on the horizon, as predictions suggest another DLC could be released this year, setting the stage for Geralt’s most ambitious adventure yet.
