Apple is set to reintroduce Intel chips in its devices.
Apple and Intel have reportedly struck a “preliminary agreement” for Intel to produce chips for Apple devices. After making a significant shift away from Intel with its successful transition to Apple Silicon, it seems the two tech giants are set to collaborate once more.
In March 2025, Intel appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO, and in August, the US government acquired a 10 percent stake in the company. However, details remain murky regarding which Apple products will feature Intel chips, as Intel spokesperson Kiana Ducey has refrained from commenting, and Apple has not responded to inquiries.
Recent reports indicate that Apple has engaged in “exploratory discussions” with both Intel and Samsung about manufacturing its processor chips in the US, moving away from its current partnership with Taiwan-based TSMC. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested late last year that Intel might begin shipping “Apple’s lowest-end M processor” as early as 2027. Additionally, there were reports in September that Intel had approached Apple regarding potential investments and deeper collaboration.
Update, May 8th: Intel has chosen not to comment.
