Apple’s anticipated ‘HomePad’ could debut as soon as October.
For years, whispers have circulated about a new home hub device from Apple, designed to rival smart home gadgets like the Google Nest Hub Mini and Amazon’s Echo Show. While details have been limited, a recent report from a reliable source has provided some insights into this anticipated device and its potential launch timeframe.
The upcoming smart hub is expected to sport a 7-inch square display and run on a fresh operating system derived from Apple’s tvOS. This new interface will feature “grids of icons, widgets, and apps” that echo the aesthetics of iOS and WatchOS. At its core, the device will utilize an upgraded version of Siri, offering video chat, security features, and intercom capabilities that connect seamlessly with other Apple Home devices. Notably, it will have the ability to automatically adjust the interface, including text and icon sizes, based on who is using the display.
This rumored device is part of Apple’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the smart home market, an area where it has primarily depended on third-party accessories. With the enhanced Siri set to launch in September, Apple seems poised to make a significant move in this category. Initially, the smart home display was slated for a Spring 2025 reveal, but the delay of the AI-enhanced Siri has pushed the launch to coincide with the rollout of iOS 27 and the new Siri AI.
In addition to the Home Hub, Apple is reportedly preparing a high-end security camera to compete with Amazon’s Ring, a new Apple TV device, and an updated HomePod mini. There are also hints of a potential robotic arm with a screen in the works. While there’s a chance these new devices could face further delays, an announcement is anticipated between October and early next year.
