Apple’s HomePod is set to debut on October 13th.
Apple’s highly anticipated smart home hub is set to make its debut on October 13th. According to insider reports, this new device will be unveiled alongside an updated HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV.
All three products will feature Siri AI, Apple’s revamped intelligent assistant, with the smart home hub taking center stage. This new addition to Apple’s lineup is expected to come with a 6-inch display that can either be mounted on a wall or placed on a countertop. The hub is described as being “about as thick as an iPhone,” with bezels reminiscent of older iPads.
Visually, the hub may draw inspiration from the iMac G4, featuring a round metal base that houses speakers and microphones, along with a metal arm to support the screen. This design allows for tilt adjustments, and there will also be a wall-mounted version with a sleeker base for the audio components.
Powering the hub will be a USB-C supply, as it does not include an internal battery. The device is expected to come in Apple’s signature gray aluminum finish.
The operating system designed for the hub will reportedly embrace iPad-like applications, with the Messages app featuring a two-panel layout. Additionally, the hub is said to support the control of other smart devices, facilitate video calls, play music, display photo slideshows, and enable intercom-style communication, all while utilizing voice and facial recognition to identify users.
