Arc Raiders Implements Hotfix to Disable Unintended Player Command, Aiming to Ensure Fair Play
Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios has rolled out a hotfix to eliminate a command that players were using to tweak the game’s visuals, giving them an unfair advantage in this popular third-person shooter.
In a post on the official Arc Raiders Discord server over the weekend, community lead Ossen announced the removal of the unintended feature.
“We have just pushed a Hotfix removing the ‘NewConsole’ command,” the post stated. “This feature was never meant to be player-facing. We’re continuing to investigate related reports and may take action where appropriate to protect fair play and the integrity of the game. As always, thank you for your reports and see you Topside!”
Before this hotfix, players exploited the NewConsole command to enhance visuals and effects, allowing them to see much more clearly than others. Clips circulating on social media showcased users with an expanded field of view (FOV) and no visible fog, even from smoke grenades, rendering them ineffective and providing an unfair edge.
Complaints about cheating in Arc Raiders have surged recently, and last week, Ossen reassured players in the Discord that “we are taking this issue very seriously and are listening to, and acting on your feedback.” She also mentioned that in the coming weeks, Embark will be “implementing significant changes to our rulesets and deploying new detection mechanisms to identify and remove cheaters.”
While the NewConsole exploit didn’t enable traditional cheats like shooting through walls, this hotfix should help level the playing field in Arc Raiders. Players can look forward to a more robust crackdown on cheating as Embark continues its efforts.
Additionally, the design lead has confirmed that changes are on the way to make Trigger Nades more challenging to use and to nerf Kettle insta-kills, stating, “You can’t have it leave your hand and just blow it up immediately.”
