Arc Raiders Team Innovates Game Update Approach

Embark Studios is shaking things up with how it updates its sci-fi extraction shooter, Arc Raiders. The studio recently announced that it will no longer provide monthly updates, stating that this approach “isn’t sustainable or compatible with the bigger ambitions we have for this game.”

Instead, they’re shifting gears to focus on “major updates twice a year,” with the first significant update set to drop in October.

“When Arc Raiders launched, our plan was to roll out monthly updates to keep players engaged and ensure the game felt fresh. However, after seeing how players interacted with the game, we realized that the long-term experience we envision for Arc Raiders requires more transformative updates,” explained executive producer Aleksander Grøndal. “We’ve found that the pressure of a monthly cycle limits the impact of these updates. You feel it, and we feel it too.”

The new strategy will emphasize larger, more impactful updates that will “genuinely change how you play the game,” according to Grøndal.

While Embark will continue to provide regular live updates, balance adjustments, and bug fixes for Arc Raiders, this new update rollout plan will allow them to “invest more deeply in the health of Arc Raiders, from progression and economy balancing to fair play and anti-cheat efforts,” Grøndal added.

The upcoming October update, titled Frozen Trail, is set to be the most substantial content update yet. Grøndal has shared that it will include a variety of new features and enhancements.

So far, the community’s response to these changes and the upcoming content updates has been overwhelmingly positive. One player on the game’s subreddit remarked, “This is MASSIVE and exactly what so many of us have been asking for. This literally addresses everything.”

Another player expressed their excitement, saying, “I’m beyond hyped. They addressed virtually every major community concern, especially the lack of a meaningful endgame loop, which is exactly why most of my friends stopped playing and a huge sentiment expressed by the community.”

Arc Raiders launched in October 2025 and quickly gained traction, especially for a premium multiplayer title. It peaked at 459,483 concurrent players on Steam in January, though numbers have since declined. Nevertheless, Arc Raiders remains among Steam’s most-played games, and with Embark’s new strategy, it could achieve lasting success.

Arc Raiders is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, and it has the potential to redefine extraction shooters in the same way Fortnite transformed battle royales.
